QX82, libgen_to_txt, OpenAI scrapped "Arrakis", Microsoft's AI Jailbreak bounty, 5g.in, Claude expansion, Meta can see through your brain and more...
👋🏻 hola! 30th, that’s quite some Nibbles we have read together, no?
🪔 Happy Durga Ashthmi!!! (it’s already the festive season here in India)
New here? Don’t forget to 👇🏻

What’s happening 📰
🚨 The most notorious country on earth North Korea got its hands-on AI, folks in the US think it’ll make them more powerful in Cyber-warfares. The country was earlier also attributed to WannaCry Ransomware and other major worldwide cyber-attacks.
🤝 Infosys and GCloud to extend their partnership to help get companies to start AI-first and tbh, Google Cloud first 😉
😶🌫️ Meta’s AI can now generate images from brain data (
brace yourselvesbeware dirty thinkers. guess what’s coming in the next meta quest headset :P?)📈 Kaggle increases their cloud CPU notebooks to now have 4-core CPUs & 29 GB of RAM! capacity on their notebooks (so now you can easily run 30B+ quantized models on your notebooks!)
🌏 Anthropic Releases its LLM Claude to support 95 countries (including India!) and you can see a list of the supported countries here. (Claude v2 performs okayish for your general chat queries, but we’d prefer ChatGPT Plus, especially when both their plus plans cost the same).
🚀 IBM Research’s brain-inspired (as in how the brain computes, not based on von Neumann architecture) new chip NorthPole (which has been under development for the last 8 years) got tested this week.
And they published quite some stats, it’s a 12nm, energy-efficient chip, especially for AI-related laborious tasks (like object detection). It contains 22B transistors in 800 sq mm. It has 256 cores and can perform 2,048 operations per core per cycle.🆕 Mojo SDK is now available for Apple Silicon, and testers have claimed it’s breezy on the Apple Silicons. A new way to do on-device AI might be unfolding. See the comparison for yourself:
🙅♂️ OpenAI was trying to make a model more efficient than GPT-4, they named it "Arrakis", and they have stopped working on it, saying it ain't happening.
💰 Microsoft will pay you $15k if you get Bing AI to go off the rails. So if you are one of those Twitteratis who love to show off how cool you are to take that AI off-roads, maybe it is time to earn some real money doing that.
🛠️ EtherHiding - Malicious code knows no boundaries. This is a long article and even if you don’t read it, remember to double-check before downloading ANY file from the internet, doesn’t matter web2 or web3.
🧪 PFGM++: MIT’s Physics-Inspired model performs better than diffusion models in image generation. The PFGM++ stands for (a mouthful) Poisson Flow Generative Model++ and is inspired by the mathematical Poisson’s formula and the calculations of physics-inspired formulation based on electrostatics. What brings us to awe 😳
🙌🏻 Honey, I shrunk the npm package by Jamie, he explains how npm still uses gzip over better algorithms like Brotli (by Google) and ZStandard (zstd by Meta). He dives into how
zstd
is faster enough that switching to it, will make a drastic impact on the environment (you know as we’ll download less and emit less CO2).😵💫 How secure is 256-bit security? a nice 6-year-old video by 3Blue1Brown explaining to you the scale that Pied Piper surpassed.
[Tweet] - India has better 5G advancement and availability than the whole of Europe (also, Nibbler A is now enjoying Airtel 5G at his home)
👾 QX82 - QX82 is a small Javascript engine that lets you create games with a retro 80s aesthetic. Only if nostalgia was an engine it would be this.
Today I(we) Learnt 📑
🐉 A chip from Motorola paved the way for how computing will work in small devices and made mobile phones possible. The chip was named Dragon Ball. (yes after the anime, Nibbler A huge fan too)
☘️ Felt it was a little non-intuitive, but
$ne
in Mongo is like JS’sArray.every
and$eq
is likeArray.some
. Play here if it's not clear.🏔️ You can actually remove backgrounds using the Preview app on Mac [Tweet]
🤝 You have read ~50% of Nibble, the following section brings tools out from the wild.
What we have been trying 🔖
🦺 AlignedBot: The World’s
safest*most aligned* AI Chatbot, programmed to reject requests that are unsafe, unethical, or otherwise harmful.🛠️ Cosine, a YC Backed AI Co-Developer
▶️ Hackreels: Animate your code. So basically after writing some stuff, you can make that a frame and so on. So that in the end it looks like a few frames running one by one with some animation in between (also known as video, lol)
Builders’ Nest 🛠️
📸 node-pureimage - Pure JS implementation of the HTML Canvas 2D drawing API
🎒 payload - Create TS-based modern admin UI easily using this
📝 libgen_to_txt - tool to convert all of libgen to txt (whaaaaaaaaaat? really?)
Meme of the week 😌
Off-topic reads/watches 🧗
🫠 True Leisure and Total Work all work and no fun make Billy a dull boy. (also felt like a personal attack tbh). A few key takeaways from this article are:
the adage “If you want something done, ask a busy person” seems to hold.
one of the most insidious drugs of choice is also one of the more socially acceptable ones: “work”.
🫠 Complex vs Complicated by Seth, the complex is what we get from nature, and complicated is what we break it to before solving.
🕊️ Least Safe Countries if WW3 Happens, of course, we want it to not happen, but just in case, JUST IN CASE, just watch the list and make sure you are safe.
Wisdom Bits 👀
"Perseverance is failing 19 times and succeeding the 20th."
— Julie Andrews
> Nibbler A: But Julie, why is someone failing 19 times that’s a lot, no?

Weekly Standup 🫡
Nibbler A did some work, fell sick, and lost his 8-year-old Android ecosystem backup/config (as he is getting dumber and older every day). In terms of good things that happened to him, he was forced to restart his Android life with Android 13.
Nibbler P took some interesting decisions at work this week. At home, he slept a lot and enjoyed some anime wrapped up in his blanket with a warm cup of coffee as the chilly winds of Delhi kept knocking at his windows.
So much content that I could read it for a whole week.
Thank you for the mention, honoured :)
