🧳 OpenAI Red Teaming Network invites domain experts interested in improving the safety of OpenAI’s models

What’s happening 📰
🌸 Do you know what happens when the best of blockchain and AI meet? Petals allow you to Run large language models at home, BitTorrent‑style. (10 nodes run on Prem.ai)
🎨 Your favourite childhood pastime, MS Paint, is bringing support for transparency and layers (The last best time to bring transparency to paint was instead of that dammed transparency effect in Vista. The next best time was now.)
🪷 DHH launches Kamal, which is basically a
right-wingway to makeIndiayour deployments independent and empowered. (so all that controversy was building up to a new launch, huh? Take our word stay out of e-lafda discussions and go build something nice!)🦀 JetBrains launches Rust Rover, a new
IDEhome for all our Rust devs with all the familiar test, run, debug, and analyze goodness that you can expect from JB (thanks to only4 for sharing this)🐞 Cisco makes its largest-ever acquisition buying cybersec company Splunk in a whopping $28B all-cash deal. TBH can’t be a better deal than a network company acquiring a cybersec company and helping improve network sec.
💵 Unity Runtime Fee Update - We talked about Unity’s runtime fee in the last edition, and they are now apologizing for not having talked to the dev community before. Now they’d be increasing the cap from $100,000 to $200,000 and will remove the requirement to use the Made with Unity splash screen. Would this help?
😱 38TB of data accidentally exposed by Microsoft AI researchers, as reported by the Wiz Team all because of one misconfigured SAS token
⚡️ QuickNode was quick to get the rpc.new link for them to directly route to create a new endpoint on their dashboard (Getting hands on a good domain early is always a pleasure to see!)
✨ AI Wrapup
🤓 ChatGPT now has a cutoff date of Jan 2022 [GPT-4 only as of now]
💺 AI chatbots were tasked to run a tech company. They built software in under 7 minutes for less than $1 (but it won’t scale trust me please)
🏋️♂️ Finnish prisoners are now AI trainers, honestly a W for everyone!
🗺️ DeepMind Maps improve the routing algorithm by 24% on average
✨ OpenAI plans to launch
CauliflowerGobi, their multi-modal model before Google releases Gemini.🧩 Google released Bard Extensions and now can interact with the complete Google Ecosystem using Bard.
💭 The YouTube team showed Dream Screen, where creators can generate new background videos, right from the app. The shorts are only going to get crazier from here!
🏞️ OpenAI announces DALL-E 3, saying that “it understands significantly more nuance and detail than our previous systems” and plugs in right with ChatGPT. And yeah, it performs really well on text too!
What brings us to awe 😳
👾 When MFA isn’t MFA - A story on how you can still fall in for social engineering and lose your data no matter how many security levels you have.
🤥 Are we really Engineers? Imposter Syndrome aside, yes we are!
瑞 History of SEO - A trip down memory lane to chart some of the biggest events in SEO that have helped shape the industry today.
🔎 Limited JSON API for Google searches using Programmable Search Engine
TL;DR - The author used the custom Google search API and opted to search the whole web instead to get a sweet little API.🎚️ GPT 3.5 vs Llama 2 fine-tuning - So for most use cases, it’s better to fine-tune your own custom Llama.
Today I(we) Learnt 📑
🪧 Semiotics is the science of signs and symbols. A stop sign isn’t a stop sign unless it looks like a stop sign.
👃 Researchers have created a neural net for an odor map which achieves human-level odor description performance and generalizes to diverse odor-prediction tasks
🔴 Swiggy rounding off your paise - Seeing those rounding off differences in your Swiggy bill? Swiggy has legit been acting fishy and here’s proof of how it has been doing this.
⚙️ HTTP status code 308 is a “permanent redirect”. What’s the difference between this and 301 “moved permanently”, you ask?
→ It’s just that 301 is a loose check (only the URL should be the same) & 308 is a strict check (the URL & HTTP method both need to be the same).
There’s a 307 as well, but we’ll leave that as an exercise for you.
